Johnny White, a native of Lonoke, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Arkansas University in 1974, where he was a two sport athlete in basket-ball and baseball, as well as a four-year letterman in both sports. White started his coaching career as head men’s basketball coach at Mineral Springs. Soon after, in 1976, his career with the Cabot School District began. He was the high school boys’ basketball coach until he was promoted to athletic director in 1986, a title he held until he retired in 2011. During his 35 years with the Cabot School District, White was also Director of Transportation for 22 years and coached a host of other sports. His girls’ and boys’ golf teams won a combined 15 state championships. He was awarded Outstanding State Golf Coach during four separate years and Golf Coach of the Year in 2000. Some of White’s other achievements include: Athletic Director of the Year in 2002-03, State Distinguished Service Award in 2003 and 2008, 7A Athletic Director of the Year in 2010-11 and Statewide Athletic Director of the Year in 2010-11. He was inducted into the Southern Arkansas University Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Since his retirement, White keeps busy by working as Public Relations Manager at Greystone Country Club in Cabot, as well as Public Relations Manager for Five Star Promotion Company and sells electronic scoreboards across the state for Daktronics. White lives in Cabot and is a member of Cabot United Methodist Church. He has two daughters, Kelly Watson of Cabot, and Amy White, who resides in Russellville, a son-in-law, Matt Watson and two grandchildren, Hayden and Kinley Watson. He will welcome an additional son-in-law in July when Amy marries Adam Anderson of Russellville.
