Dick Johnson is a graduate of Ashdown High School and the University of Arkansas with a Specialist Degree in Education. He has been a Fayetteville resident for more than 47 years. Dick and Julie Johnson have been married for 41 years. Julie is a realtor/broker for the Real Estate Consultants of Fayetteville. They have two daughters, Molly, who is a stylist at ENVY Salon in Fayetteville and Sara, who is married to Thomas Wasson and is currently teaching in the Rogers School System. Johnson is currently vice-president for Development and School Relations for Five Star Sports in Fayetteville. He spent 29 years in education and 19 of those years were with the Fayetteville School District serving as teacher, head football coach, athletic director and assistant superintendent. Johnson was a former member of the Arkansas High School Athletic Administrators Association’s executive committee. He was the founder, co-founder or director of the AAA’s Weekend of Champions in Fayetteville (baseball, softball and soccer), the Holiday Hoops Classic, The Lady Bulldogs Classic, the Fayetteville All-Star Week, the Harmon Renovation Project, the AHSAAA Hall of Fame along with Jim Rowland and Bill Mayo and the Wendy’s 4 for Schools travel meal card program for Arkansas Schools. Johnson is the author of the “Athletic Dead Period Proposal” that was adopted by the AAA and “Smart Jock”, a study with over 25,000 participants which compare high school students involved in extracurricular activities with those that were not in seven objective categories. Johnson is also a board member of the First Christian Church of Fayetteville. He is a board member of the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club, a member of the Cross Country Commission that led to the location and construction of the University of Arkansas Cross Country course and past president of the Fayetteville Humane Society. Johnson is a musician and song writer. His credits include Rivercity Streetband and Ana Divina albums on the STAX record label and the soon to be released CD “Good Stuff” produced by Tommy Byrd of Byrd House Studios in Austin, Tex.
