Young is a Conway native who received two degrees from the University of Central Arkansas. He coached at Conway, Little Rock Central, the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and Fort Smith Northside. He led Northside to the Class AAAAA state football title in 1987. His Northside teams finished as state runner-up seven times. He is the winningest coach in Northside history.
